“We think we listen, but very rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy. Yet listening, of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces for change that I know”
Carl Rogers
My approach is compassionate, collaborative and kind. As a person-centred counsellor, my approach is founded upon my belief that each and every person already holds within them an innate capacity for change and personal growth. It is your own uniqueness, distinctiveness, understandings and insights which will guide our work, supporting honest exploration towards a deeper understanding of yourself and your problems, whatever they may be.
Working at a pace and depth which is comfortable for you, I can help you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and patterns of behaviour, to move forwards in your life with new insights, greater clarity and wellbeing.
I am trained in counselling those affected by trauma. Whether you experienced a traumatic event, or are living with the impact of complex or developmental trauma, counselling can help you to understand the emotional, mental and physical responses you may experience, the ways in which your life and relationships may have been affected, and support you in moving forwards in your life with self-compassion and an increased sense of safety and empowerment.
I work in a way which is tailored to meeting the needs and circumstances of each person. I recognise the importance of valuing the unique sets of experiences, perspectives and values my clients bring, working together towards creating meaningful, lasting change. Then, whilst being person-centred, I am able to incorporate aspects of other therapeutic approaches to support our work, such as Compassion Focussed Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and working with attachment theory.
I will offer you my empathy, my understanding and my acceptance of you and what you bring. I am gently and safely challenging, and we will work together towards increased self-awareness, more connected relationships, and skills and strategies for taking care of your emotional and mental health into the future.
Sometimes our difficulties are clear to us, sometimes they are not clear at all. Life can throw us unimaginable challenges, or we work hard to keep everything together, before it becomes too difficult to manage alone.
